Materials and Care Guide

All Birty Dird products are selected with you in mind. Made from body-safe, quality-controlled materials. This guide explains the types of materials we use, how to care for them, and how to extend the life of your purchase.

Explore Materials and Care Instructions

Use the panels below to learn about the materials we use in Birty Dird products and how to maintain them. Each section explains properties, cleaning, storage, and care tips to help extend the life of your purchase.

Silicone is the premium material used across Birty Dird products. It is body-safe, hypoallergenic, and non-porous, meaning it will not absorb fluids. Silicone can hold fine details such as veins, freckles and textures, making it ideal for lifelike sex dolls. It also provides a smooth surface for vibrators, masturbators and other toys.

Types of silicone we use:
  • Platinum-cured silicone (sex dolls): soft, elastic, and highly realistic. Holds painted details and texture for a lifelike feel.
  • Shell-cast silicone (vibrators and sleeves): a firmer silicone layer moulded around internal motors or parts, offering durability and hygiene.
  • Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR): injection-moulded for casings and small parts, offering smooth consistency and resistance to wear.
Care:
  • Wash with warm water and mild soap or toy cleaner.
  • Dry thoroughly before storage.
  • Use water-based lubricants only.
  • Store separately from other silicone products in a dust-free bag.

TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) is sometimes used for the soft inner sleeves of vibrators or masturbators. It provides flexibility and a more cushion-like feel during use.

Properties:
  • Very soft, elastic, and stretchable.
  • Creates a textured inner surface for stimulation.
  • More porous than silicone, meaning extra care is required.
Care:
  • Wash immediately after use with warm water and mild soap.
  • Pat dry, then apply a light coating of renewal powder to prevent stickiness.
  • Always use water-based lubricants only.
  • Store separately in a fabric pouch to avoid lint and dust.
Durability:
  • Less durable than silicone — can tear if overstretched.
  • With proper care and regular powdering, sleeves will last longer.

ABS is a rigid, body-safe plastic used mainly in handles, casings, and external shells of devices.

Care:
  • Wipe with mild soap and water or an alcohol wipe.
  • Avoid submerging electronic components.
  • All lubricants are safe if ABS is a contact point.

Stainless steel is durable, non-porous, and body-safe. It provides weight and temperature play options.

Care:
  • Wash with warm water and soap, or sterilise by boiling.
  • Dry fully before storage.
  • All lubricants are safe.

Tempered and borosilicate glass are smooth, non-porous, and body-safe. They can be warmed or cooled before use.

Care:
  • Wash with warm water and soap, or sterilise by boiling.
  • Handle with care — although tempered, glass can still break if dropped.
  • All lubricants are safe.

TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer) was commonly used in earlier generations of dolls. Birty Dird has made a conscious decision not to stock TPE dolls because silicone is the superior material.

Limitations of TPE:
  • Requires constant oiling and powdering. Leaves an oily residue on the skin.
  • Cannot hold fine painted details such as veins or freckles.
  • Feels less realistic than silicone.
  • Breaks down faster, prone to tearing and fading.
  • Less durable, especially under long-term use.

Decision: We believe the future of dolls is in silicone — they are more durable, realistic, and body-safe. All new designs are released as Silicone dolls and moving forward new technology is geared to the Silicone dolls.

Cleaning:
  • Use warm water and mild unscented soap, or toy cleaner.
  • Avoid harsh chemicals (except ABS, glass, steel can tolerate alcohol wipes).
Drying:
  • Air-dry completely before storage.
  • For silicone or TPE, pat dry with a lint-free cloth and apply renewer powder if needed.
Storage:
  • Keep in a cool, dry place out of sunlight.
  • Store toys separately in bags or hard cases.
  • Larger dolls: store flat or upright with support.
Lubricants:
  • Silicone products: water-based lubes only.
  • TPE products: water-based lubes only (not stocked by Birty Dird).
  • ABS/Glass/Steel: all lubes safe.
Battery & Electronics:
  • Charge devices at least once a month, even when not in use.
  • Always dry fully before charging.
  • Store chargers separately, avoid overcharging.
Extending Product Life:
  • Regular cleaning and proper storage extend durability.
  • Inspect regularly for wear or surface changes.
